AVIATION POSTCARD CLUB INTERNATIONAL

NEWSLETTER NO. 46

MARCH 2004

After the themed edition of December we revert to normal with a mixed bag, including some Wright follow-up in What Do You Know. Actually there is a bit of a watery theme with some water based aircraft old and new. The centrefold and cover features cards of the first Imperial Airways flying boat built for that airline, the Short Calcutta.

Imperial Airways card of the prototype Calcutta moored on the Thames for inspection by MPs.

This piece is partly built around cards from the collection of New York member Daniel Kusrow. Daniel has also specialised in researching the early US US flying boat airline, Aeromarine of Florida and new York. The results including card images from his collection can be seen at http://www.timetableimages.com/ttimages/aerom.htm and in the article on urban seaplanes old and new.
